Muggle Monday: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to be Published

It's time for Muggle Monday, in which I highlight something from the Harry Potter world. This is somewhat inspired by the Mundane Monday posts by The Mundie Moms.

But let's be real as to why I made up this feature: I just want the opportunity to post something about Harry Potter.

This week, we finally received confirmation that the stage production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts I & II, will indeed be published in print form so that fans around the world can enjoy it:

I know a lot of people were disappointed when the London stage production was announced because not everyone would be able to make the trip just for a night of theatre - I know I was a bit bummed, as well. But I always had faith that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child would be made available to everyone in some format; after all, exclusivity is so NOT Jo's thing.

So I know I wasn't the only one to let out a cry of joy when it was officially announced that us fans would be able to read the play's script on the holy day (July 31, 2016) from Scholastic and Little Brown UK. We've heard some tidbits in the past about what the trio are up to nowadays, but this new eighth story is bound to give us tons of new information about the state of the Wizarding World and Harry's children, as well. I AM EXCITED. To get more stories of our beloved characters from the creator herself? It's more than we ever could have hoped for.

Cursed Child London cast
Maybe the only slight disappointment I have now is I won't get to have the chance to see black actress Noma Dumezweni take on Hermione, and the rest of the original cast too. I can only hope that the play production will be filmed and released as a movie at some point (pretty please?). I have no complaints otherwise.

How about you? Are you as excited as I am to see more of Harry and the Wizarding World? Or would you rather have the story end when it did and not have any new information? I'd love to read your thoughts in the comments!

  1. I feel sure that the play will be filmed at some point so that everyone can have a chance to enjoy it - I'm hoping anyway, because like you I'd LOVE to see these actors takes on our beloved trio^^ Needless to say, I was over the moon when it was confirmed that we'd be getting the 8th Harry Potter book last week. I've already pre-ordered it of course and I LOVE that it comes out on THE MOST MAGICAL DAY ♥

  3. I'm SUPER excited about it being released as a book, too!!! I definitely jumped for joy and excitement when I heard. I am a little disappointed that it will be printed in a play format rather than the format of the other books, but I'm still super excited about it!! It just might be a bit strange switching to a different type of storytelling medium like that especially since we won't get the same "insider" experience that we get through a narrative, but hopefully it'll be just as awesome to read. :D

I'm still hoping for a recording released on DVD/Blu-ray, too, though! That would be the only thing to make it EVEN better! :D

  4. I am so so so excited. Yes, I'll be seeing the play (I'm so happy I was planning on visiting London sometime this year anyway) but it will be nice to have the play in my hands and something that I can keep for years. I'd LOVE for the play to be filmed and released though for everyone that cannot see it and for everyone in general to be able to own this new story. :) I was so excited when I heard this news! YAY!!

  5. I am pretty freaking stoked for this release! I may have already pre-ordered it. I cannot see them not making the play into a movie in the future- I think it will depend on how the play is received. It's a good time to be a Harry Potter Fan.

  7. Yay :D Awesome post Aylee. <3 Thank you for sharing about this. I'm also SO HAPPY that this will be a book too :D So amazing. I also can't watch the play, so reading it instead will be pretty good. But yeah, I also hope it will be filmed for a movie one day :)

  9. Can't wait to find out what happened 19 years later! I wouldn't be surprised if they released the play on DVD/Blu-ray. It would be a no brainer marketing idea.

  10. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that this will be released on DVD at some point. I'm also happy we are getting something new from the HP world, although I'm unsure if this format will be a success for me.
