Muggle Monday: 7 New Things We Learned From J.K. Rowling's New Article On Pottermore

It's time for Muggle Monday, in which I highlight a significant piece of news from the Harry Potter franchise. This is somewhat inspired by the Mundane Monday posts by The Mundie Moms.

But let's be real as to why I made up this feature: I just want the opportunity to post something about Harry Potter.

Did you know that the 2014 Quidditch World Cup had been going on in the Patagonian Desert in Argentina at the same time that the FIFA 2014 World Cup had been playing out in Brazil? Well, this past week, perennially bitchy journalist gossip columnist, Rita Skeeter, posted an article on Pottermore detailing the adult lives of past members of Dumbledore's Army as they met up for the Quidditch World Cup Final - Brazil vs. Bulgaria. You've all probably read it already, but I'm pretty excited about it so I thought I would post a summary of the major facts we learned from the article (as opposed to the gossip spouted by Rita). NOTE: obviously there are some major spoilers ahead if you have NOT finished the Harry Potter series!!:

7 New Things We Learned About Dumbledore's Army From Rita Skeeter's Article On Pottermore

1. Members of Dumbledore's Army are even MORE famous now. Not just Harry. Everyone from the old gang - Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Neville, and Luna - are apparently celebrities in the wizarding world.

2. Harry has a mysterious nasty cut on his right cheekbone. Presumably he got this as a result of his work as an Auror at the Ministry of Magic - and NOT as a result of a curse from Ginny, as Rita Skeeter implies - but it is not known exactly how he got it. Harry is also still sporting his trademark round glasses.

3. Ginny is working for the Daily Prophet and has been covering the 2014 Quidditch World Cup. Well, we knew this before Rita's article as she has been reporting the results of the tournament from Patagonia on Pottermore for the past few weeks now.

4. Ron quit his job as an Auror and has joined George in managing Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. I've always disliked the movie depiction of Ron as a clown with no useful skills to bring to the trio as book fans know that he is in fact essential, but I DO quite like this idea because it means George is now getting help and company in the wake of Fred's death.

5. Hermione is working her way through the ranks of the Ministry of Magic very quickly. No surprise that our girl became Deputy Head of the
Department of Magical Law Enforcement in a meteoric rise and is now poised to go ever higher in the Ministry. Will Minister for Magic be next?

6. Neville is a popular Herbology teacher at Hogwarts. His wife, Hannah Abbott, wants to take over Madam Pomfrey's old position as Matron of the Hospital Wing at Hogwarts. Rita seems to indicate that Neville and Hannah are alcoholics now, but we all know this is utter rubbish.

7. Luna has twin boys with her husband Rolf Scamander, grandson of Magizoologist Newt. You may recall that Newt Scamander will have his story told in the film adaptation of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, screenplay by J.K. Rowling. Unfortunately, the film will take place decades before the time of Harry Potter, so we will not see Luna and Rolf or any of the gang on screen then.

  1. 1. I love that :) They all deserve attention, because they have played important roles to help Harry Potter.
    4. That's sweet.
    5. OF COURSE. Haha. Miss smarty pants :)

I wished J.K Rowling never stopped writing these short stories. It's so much fun to see them grow up.

    1. 1. Agreed!
      4. :)
      5. Hee, of course!

The only reason I would ever want her to stop writing short stories was if she wanted to write something longer instead...

  2. Yay Muggle Mondays! Probably the best thing ever to happen on Mondays :D I'm thrilled you summed up that evil Skeeter's vile nonsense to the bare essentials here!

    1. I love that the Golden & Silver trio are all still famous - even more so. They deserve to be celebrated and revered because they all saved the freaking world!
    2. I'm insanely curious about Harry's new scar. We all know Ginny isn't responsible but who...or what was?! The poor boy is more cut up than anyone I've ever heard of!
3.Go Ginny. I love that girl (especially in the books) so I was happy to get any new info on her.
    4. I always quite liked that Ron was an auror with Harry but to be honest poor George probably needed some support more so I'm glad Ron went that route.
    5. No surprise here, I wouldn't be surprised if she DID become Minister one day soon! Go Hermione ♥
6.Yeah I'm with you, Neville is not likely to be an alcoholic nor Hannah. I'm glad he's still well-loved as a teacher though :)
7.Luna!! I think it's awesome she's tied into the whole Fantastic Beast family haha even though the films will be before the fact, it's still cool!

I am over the moon that JKR decided to give us a bit more HP :D I hope she never stops. And I'm still wishing and hoping for the freaking Encyclopaedia!! Awesome post Aylee^^ xxxx

    1. haha, it is one of the few things that excites me about Mondays, it's true.

      1. I love it too, but I hope they aren't receiving a bunch of really unwanted attention from it.
      2. I really hope Jo plans to expand on that!!
      3. Yeah, love book Ginny!
      4. Aww, yeah agreed!
      5. I could totally see it!
      6. lol, oh that Rita causing trouble!
      7. Yeah, it's pretty perfect considering all the beasties you knew existed :)

Give us the Encyclopaedia!! I really hope she does one day. Thanks, Micheline!!

  3. 1. The gang is all back together! Although they're not mentioned I like to thing that Seamus, Dean, and Pavarti are in the background as well.
    2. Yeah, about that cut. If he told you he would probably have to kill you. I have a feeling it's very top secret :)
    4. I was actually really happy that Ron quit being an auror to help out George. I think he'd enjoy that more in the long run.
    5. How cool would it be if Hermione did become Minister of Magic?! She would be a lot more understanding when working with the muggle Prime Minister than others have been. I wonder if that would make her the first muggle-born to be Minister?
6&7. I love hearing about Neville and Luna and knowing that they are happy.

    1. 1. Oh yeah, I bet everyone has their own stories... I wish Jo would give us more tidbits :)
      2. Haha, right that's probably it!
      4. Yeah, it's good for Ron and George both!
      5. Ooh yeah, totally! She would be really great with muggle relations and that's exactly what the wizarding world needs! I bet she would be the first muggle-born Minister!
      6&7 Me too :)

  4. I heard about this, but I hadn't read it yet. Thanks for sharing the main "reveals" or things we learned. How exciting!! I just love Harry Potter and all that comes with it.

    1. Ooh, do give it a read when you have the time! It's worth it if you love HP like I do :)

  5. I love Pottermore far too much .... remember that backstory about McGonagall?? D: D: <-- emotion-fraught faces.

Ugh Rita Skeeter .... she'll never give up will she??? I'm really worried about Harry and Ginny's marriage now! But using my considerable (not) arithmetic skills, this World Cup takes place three years before the last chapter of Deathly Hallows .... and as we all know, all is well.

    1. PS can you believe about Neville and Hannah?? Didn't see that one coming! But I too know the irresistible temptation that a writer feels to just pair off all your characters! I wish we knew something more about George.

    2. Emotion-fraught faces indeed!! The backstory for McGonagall was possibly my favourite tidbit from Pottermore so far (except besides this one, of course).

Ohh, I don't know, we know that Rita likes to exaggerate and make things up so I really think Harry and Ginny's marriage is alright. And yeah, that's a good point!

Heehee, I like it even if I wasn't expecting it. I guess Herbology was Hufflepuff realm, so maybe they became interested in each other through that... From what I understand, George is now with Angelina Johnson!

    3. Yes, I saw about George and Angelina! In-te-rest-ing ...

By the way, I nominated you for the Sunshine Blogger Award! :)

  6. This is the first time I've heard of a short story being released, so I thought it would be all the talk! I read it and loved it, but was surprised to see not too many people talking about it. I might have to check out Pottermore for some more stories!

    1. Hmm, well it's all the talk in the circles I run in anyway, haha! You definitely don't want to miss out on the tidbits that Jo posts on Pottermore!

  7. I was so excited when I read this!! I love that Luna and Neville were included, and even Krum. :D Oh and Teddy! I wish there was more about him, :) I always loved Lupin so much :D

    1. Yeah, I was glad to see Krum, Teddy, Fleur, Bill, Victoire, etc.! It would be SO great to get an update on all the characters again :)

  8. I love #4, I think that suits him. And Neville is, of course, always awesome. Teaching Herbology is perfect for him!

I really wish Rowling would just write another novel - about an older HP, R & H or even their kids. It's a world filled with characters that I could read about for years!

    1. Yeah, those careers are pretty perfect for them!

Haha, you are most definitely not alone on that front. I'm sure that's what we all want!

  9. I know Neville and Luna are happily married to other people but I STILL SHIP THEM. :-) I'm so glad Ron is going to be working with George, I think that will be good for both of them. And YES to a Hermione led Ministry of Magic. It's about time she ran the wizarding world! Thanks for this awesome post!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. haha, I do sort of like them together, but at the same time I like that Jo didn't pair everyone up within the gang because that wouldn't have been very realistic. The Ministry of Magic definitely needs a muggle-born in charge after all the crap that they did!!

  10. I have a shameful confession to make, but I still have yet to read this article. I need to do so and i will now! I love this post, and it makes me want to reread the entire series, which I've been considering anyways. All of this sounds just so fitting for these characters, though I do have to admit I'm kind of disappointed that Luna and Neville didn't end up marrying. But that's just me being silly. haha Great post! :D

    1. For shame, haha! Nah, that's okay, I'm sure you'll read it when you have time, it's a quick read. A reread of the entire series less so, but I'm still very keen on it as well anyways! I can see why people would ship Neville and Luna, but I think I would rather they didn't all marry within their group - a bit too convenient for me.

  11. I love how this post was formatted! Focusing on the facts and positive aspects and all. :)
I actually had to read this outside of Pottermore's site as I totally forget my username. Oops!
But yay it was so exciting to learn some new facts - particularly about what Ron and Hermione have been up to. Oh, I hope Hermione does become Minister of Magic. That would be awesome. I see what you mean about Ron and I agree, and I think it's a good thing he's distinguishing himself outside of Harry by working with George and all.
Let's hope this article means that maybe Rowling will write more about our beloved characters again? (If not full-length books, then some more tidbits here and there).

    1. Aww, thanks Amanda! And I also gorget my username sometimes, haha.

Yes, I do like that Ron is distinguishing himself, finding his own way, and presumably keeping George company :)

Oh man, I sure hope so!! I do have high hopes for potentially something more being released on July 31, or maybe DH's anniversary.

  12. I'm so glad you did this post, Aylee, because I did not hear about this! I have a Pottermore account, but I haven't been on it in about two years (still, I got sorted into Ravenclaw which suddenly seemed completely accurate, though I don't think I'd considered my house before that, so I was happy) and know nothing of all the news.
Number 1 and 2 were the most interesting to me- the fact that they're so popular seems a little strange to me, all of them and not just the three. I wonder how that would affect their families and lives. I thought Luna was already supposed to have had children? Or is this new and it was just that she was married?

    1. Cool, I'm glad I could point it out to you! As far as I know, we have only been told that Luna married Scamander, not that they had twins, but I could be wrong.

  13. I am so thrilled to see this post, Aylee! I remember reading it in my mail and my God! It still excited me. I am, very embarrasingly, yet to read the short story but you have me intrigued. I'm going to do so ASAP. Promise. Thank you for sharing this!
