I thought it would be a good idea to post what I think are the top ten unanswered questions from The Mortal Instruments Series that I hope to be resolved, if not in City of Fallen Angels, then at least sometime before TMI Cycle 2 is over. Cassandra Clare left a few things unresolved from TMI Cycle 1 and I'm DYING to find out the answers!
WARNING: Under no circumstances should you read the following if you have not read the first three books in The Mortal Instruments Series. Spoilers Ahoy!
1. What was Magnus talking to Tessa (from The Infernal Devices Series) about at the end of City of Glass?
From the epilogue of City of Glass:
"Magnus stood in the shadow of a tree, talking to a girl in a white dress with a cloud of pale brown hair. She turned as Magnus looked toward them, and Clary locked eyes with her for a moment across the distance that separated them. There was something familiar about her, though Clary couldn't have said what it was."
2. Why does Tessa look familiar to Clary?
Has Clary met Tessa before? For what other reason could she find Tessa familiar?
3. What did the Seelie Queen mean when she told Clary that her mother's accounts of her past may not be completely true?
Is there something Jocelyn has still yet to tell Clary from her past or was the Seelie Queen just trying to trick Clary? The Seelie Queen cannot lie but she can mislead.
4. What is the repercussion of Simon's curse, the Mark of Cain?
Clary marks Simon with the Mark of Cain, a powerful protection spell. This supposedly makes Simon invulnerable to anyone who tries to harm him. As Raphael says, "Any harm done to him will rebound upon the doer sevenfold."
5. Who will Simon choose: Isabelle or Maia or neither?
I am not on any particular Team for this. Does anyone have a preference?
6. If Magnus is immortal and Alec isn't, then what kind of effect will this have on their relationship?
I love Alec and Magnus together possibly even more than Clary and Jace. I'm worried how this is going to be resolved although I understand that not everyone's story can have a happy ending.
7. Why did Madam Dorothea predict that Jace would fall in love with the "wrong person"?
Is Clary the "wrong person" or is someone else? Is Madam Dorothea's prophecy just BS?
8. What is the repercussion of Jace being brought back to life?
Cassie posted a CoFA cookie back in May of last year indicating that Jace may be in trouble with the Silent Brothers for upsetting the balance of life and death.
9. Is Sebastian/Jonathan really dead?
Jace supposedly kills Sebastian in City of Glass (he breaks his spine and penetrates his heart with a seraph blade) and yet his body is never recovered.
10. Who is going to be the "Big Bad" in TMI Cycle 2 now that Valentine is dead?
There will be a new villain in the Second Cycle and according to Cassie, it is someone we've already met in either TMI Cycle 1 or The Infernal Devices. I'm absolutely baffled. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thoughts, predictions, theories, anything I missed?
Let me know in the comments!
Just from reading your post, I already believe that cycle 2 would be a very exciting read!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for dropping by and commenting on ARGH's interview. He is now thinking of writing a petition and collecting signatures so he could replace Rob Pattinson :D
Brush Up On Your Reading
I'm gonna have to stop calling myself a vampire fan, because I still haven't read these books. :(
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday, Aylee!
I didn't even realize Tessa was in City of Glass! And the big question for me out of all those is the Jace falling in love with the wrong person issue. I worry that it still means Clary even know that the brother/sister issue has been resolved, but I don't know who else he could be in love with and why they would be "wrong". You've raised so many good questions Aylee, I can't wait for this book!
ReplyDeleteAylee! Thank you so much for this! Seriously I never thought of half of this before (which I am totally kicking myself for since this is my most favourite book series ever)... And I never saw that cookie about the Silent Brothers being mad at Jace so that is really interesting! UGH!!! ONE MONTH!!!
ReplyDeleteI just started City of Glass this week (which I'm trying to juggle with four other books because I am a crazy person), but I totally peeked at some of these. I'm too anxious! I want to know what is up with Sebastian!
ReplyDeleteAch! Now I need to read the books all over again. Dammit.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME post Aylee!! I burning to know the answers to many of the questions you posed!! One month and one day to go!! Eek! ^_^
ReplyDeleteVery thought provoking post. It's awesome! One thing i will let you know is that if you join either of Cassandra Clare's google groups you will know that she has clearly stated that Sebastian/Jonathan is dead. The reason behind the no-body scenario is not known however. Can't wait for the next books! :D
ReplyDeleteThose are good questions! I agree with you on many of those. I will be so crushed if she(C. Clare) hurts Jace. She can't hurt Jace. I will be devastated.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I absolutely LOVE the title of your blog!!! That is exactly how I felt after Harry. I went through a "mourning" after reading the last book. It is kind of like...life before Harry and life after Harry.
Nina: LOL! I would sign that petition :)
ReplyDeleteMissie: What, really?! You better get on that soon! I wouldn't want anything to get spoiled for you.
Jenny: I'm definitely worried about the "wrong person" issue too. But maybe Madam Dorothea has no real talent as a seer. Jace didn't think she had much real talent anyway... maybe she said that because she thought Jace and Clary were brother and sister?
Avery: I hadn't really given these much thought before either until I stopped to write this post. Then all of a sudden all these questions just came to me. So excited!
Logan: Oh no! Don't peak, it'll ruin the awesome ending to CoG. So excited to read your review for it by the way. CoG was my favourite of the three (and I'm hoping CoFA will surpass it!).
Zoe: haha, I would totally read them again if only I had time! If only.
Midnight Bloom: Burning, yes. So excited for it and the trailer due out soon!
rayray: Oh, really? I was not aware of that so thank you! I wonder what happened to his body though... it couldn't have just been washed away by the river could it?
susan: I know, I know: not Jace! Or Simon or Clary or Alec or Magnus or Isabelle. Basically everyone. I am just so fond of all her characters.
And yeah, there was a definite mourning period and feeling of loss after the last book was over with. This is how I view all books now in my life after Harry: I am constantly comparing them and they never measure up... But that doesn't mean I can't love them a lot even still!
I can't wait to read City of Fallen Angels !! I'll re read the first three books next week I guess !! =)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to get the anwers to these questions =)
ALYEE! I thought of another question that I thought was good. Seriously ever since you posted this I keep thinking of random questions that I would like to see resolved... Especially right at the moment I am about to fall asleep... Ugh. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat I wonder is, is Magnus' playing around with Clary's memory going to come back into play in this book (ie. will some of the things that she was forced to forget be important)?
And also, I stole (or more kindly borrowed) this idea from you, I am going to post one of these for Lili St. Crow's "Strange Angel" series this week! But unlike you, I have no restraint, and I am going to ask a ton of different questions instead of just 10.
Intriguing bunch of questions-- they all had me flipping back through City of Glass. I can't wait for Fallen Angels, either, and the whole Magnus-is-mortal-but-Alec-isn't problema has bothered me for a while, too! Sebastian was the coolest villain and rival for Jace, and of course Valentine was the best... I too wonder who could possibly be the next Big Bad? (Love the Buffy reference. ;)
ReplyDeleteI just started listening to-yes listening not reading- City of Ashes. It's not going fast enough.
ReplyDeleteI was totally excited about Ed Westwick doing the audiobook (I love his voice, his Chuck Bass voice and his normal voice).
I want to be a part of the craziness that is the release of City of Fallen Angels. Hopefully I can find the time to get through these two books. Wish me Luck.
PS-I loved this post, even though I couldn't read it all.
ReplyDeleteElodie: I wish I had time to reread the first three books in a week!! That would be ideal but unlikely.
ReplyDeleteAvery: haha, sorry to keep you up at night :) That's an excellent question! It would be interesting to see if there is anything else hidden from Clary's past that she doesn't know about yet. That actually hadn't occurred to me when I was writing out the questions. I came up with more than 10 questions but then I narrowed it down to the top 10 (another one I was thinking of was how did Isabelle come into possession of Camille's necklace?). I still need to read The Strange Angel series but I would still love to read that post!! I love plotting out what questions I would like to be answered before a series comes to an end (I did the same thing with Deathly Hallows, Mockingjay, and LOST). And then checking off what gets answered and what is left open. My idea of fun :)
Kat: Is it too much to ask that Alec and Magnus have a happy ending?! Cassie likes to toy with and torture her readers though I've noticed. Sebastian and Valentine were formidable opponents and I feel like Cassie is going to need to come up with a new Big Bad that tops them for Cycle 2. I know she can do it too :) Love Buffy!
Sara: Ooh, I hope you finish in time too! Though really - you shouldn't be looking at this post at all if you haven't finished CoG! I would feel horrible if I spoiled you in any way. Ed Westwick will be awesome. I don't watch Gossip Girl often but whenever I do, he is the only reason. He has a fantastic voice. I'll probably borrow the audiobook from the library sometime after it's released (and even though I'll have read the book already).
Wow, great questions! Interesting topic too :)Thanks for sharing! I don't have any answers sadly... :(
ReplyDeleteSo I asked Cassie if Magnus' playing around with Clary's mind will play a part in this book (which I thought would perhaps explain why Tessa seemed familiar to her, but she couldn't remember why) and she responded "Not Really"... So I wonder what would account for that deja vu, in a sense?
ReplyDeleteI have only read City of Bones! Wish I could give you some predictions! I really to catch up on the series. Btw...I added your blog button! Hopefully, I'll get one soon.
ReplyDeleteLulu: I don't have any answers either!! I wish. Only a month to go at least!
ReplyDeleteAvery: I really like that train of thought so it's a bummer Cassie shot it down. It would have worked really well for explaining why Clary felt a deja vu. I have no idea what other reason could have led to her feeling that way.
Julie: I hope this post didn't spoil you at all and no one spoils you in the time to come. Really interested to hear what you think of the rest of the series after the bombshell of the Jace and Clary relationship. And thanks!
I saw a Q & A on GoodReads a while back where Cassandra Clare answered a couple of those. Sebastian's body wasn't found because he was part greater demon and since they basically turn to dust when they die, so did Sebastian. The Madam Dorothea thing only applied at the time so that won't be an issue I guess in these next books.
ReplyDeleteI really need to get a move on with this series so that I can contribute. :(
ReplyDeleteI've still only read the first.
Looksie Lovitz: Aha! I read a few questions off of that Goodreads chat but I never saw the answers you just pointed out so thanks! Good to get some answers... but still the wait is torturous!
ReplyDeleteJessica: You should! I hope you don't get spoiled in the meantime.
Okay, I finished CoG so I came back to read this more thoroughly. :) I definitely loved Glass the best of all three books. By FAR. I still haven't read Infernal Devices though so I missed the Tessa reference.
ReplyDeleteI really want to know who the new baddy is going to be. I'm also relieved that Jace and Clary aren't related. I was getting suspicious when the CoFA promo materials had them like making out and stuff. I was like "Hey now!"
I'm going to post my review of CoG on CoFA release day. :)
Yeah, I liked CoG the most too. I haven't read Clockwork Angel yet either but I am aware who Tessa is.
ReplyDeletehaha, I always knew in the back of my mind that Clary and Jace couldn't possibly be related but I was still incredibly relieved to find out for sure that they weren't! I was rooting for them so bad :) And their makeout scenes tend to be really intense, so yeah, definitely a relief.
