But let's be real as to why I made up this meme: I just want the opportunity to post something about Harry Potter.
This week, one of my favourite scenes from the books:
'I don't need a cloak to become invisible,' said Dumbledore gently. 'Now, can you think what the Mirror of Erised shows us all?'
Harry shook his head.
'Let me explain. The happiest man on earth would be able to use the Mirror of Erised like a normal mirror, that is, he would look into it and see himself exactly as he is. Does that help?'
Harry thought. Then he said slowly, 'It shows us what we want ... whatever we want ...'
'Yes and no,' said Dumbledore quietly. 'It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest, most desperate desires of our hearts. You, who have never known your family, see them standing around you. Ronald Weasley, who has always been overshadowed by his brothers, sees himself standing alone, the best of all of them. However, this mirror will give us neither knowledge or truth. Men have wasted away before it, entranced by what they have seen, or been driven mad, not knowing if what it shows is real or even possible.'
'The Mirror will be moved to a new home tomorrow, Harry, and I ask you not to go looking for it again. If you ever do run across it, you will now be prepared. It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that. Now, why don't you put that admirable Cloak back on and get off to bed?'

this is a great meme! :D Dumbledore's words are wise.
ReplyDeleteI love Harry Potter:) I need to re-read the whole series again since I haven't read them since I started the blog and really got into reading and I think I'd get a lot more out of them this time around. Loved this scene, great choice Aylee!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea for a meme. There are so many wonderful quotes from HP. Rowling manages to teach so many life lessons, but you never feel like you're being preached to.
ReplyDeleteI love this meme! You can never have enough Harry Potter in your life =) This is such a great scene -- I think that is probably the most classic Dumbledore quote too. I've always wanted to roll my eyes at Harry though. It's so obvious what the mirror does after what Dumbledore tells him! And yet he's still miles wide of the mark! "It shows us what we want...whatever we want..." -- but then I have to remind myself that he's only 11 years old. LOL
ReplyDelete@Maidenveil: He's one of my favourite characters!
ReplyDelete@Jenny: I really need to reread them again, too. Probably won't happen anytime soon with by TBR pile of books that I haven't read yet looming over me.
@Alison: Exactly!
@Casey: haha, yes, please forgive Harry!
Oh yes, I love this scene too. Very wise words. That's one of the things I love about HP: There were so many things taught that are pertinent to real life.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favourite scenes in the entire series of books. The relationship between Dumbledore and Harry is just beginning to spark into an amazing bond between mentor and protege...thanks for posting this, Aylee :)
ReplyDeleteI love Harry Potter! Seeing this really wants me to read them again. I don't know how many times I've read Sorcerer's Stone, but I love more each time.
ReplyDeleteI really need to pick up this series some time. lol
ReplyDeleteI love that quote at the end. :)
@Small Review: Definitely!
ReplyDelete@Melissa: Yep, it's one of my favourites, too!
@Julie: I know what you mean. I always find something else that I didn't notice before with each reread.
@Jessica: What? Are you saying what I think you're saying? You've never read this series before?! Um, yeah, I may be a bit biased but I definitely think you should read the series! Like now! lol.
This is one of my all time favorite scenes from Harry Potter. I love your Muggle Monday! I can't wait until next week's! :)
ReplyDelete@Aylee: You - biased? Nah. lol
ReplyDeleteI'll try to pick up a copy of my first Potter book soon. ;)
@Katie: It's one of my favourites, too!
ReplyDelete@Jessica: Do it!
Nice meme! I totally vote to make it weekly! :-) I love the quote you pointed out at the end. You're right. It's something we all have to remember at times!
ReplyDeletehaha, I think I probably will make it weekly.
ReplyDeleteOMG my heart just stopped. Love this series so much. I might have to re-read them...again...haha!
