In My Mailbox (4)

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi of The Story Siren (and inspired by Alea of Pop Culture Junkie) to showcase any books that I have bought or borrowed or won to read.

I didn't get to buy any books this week because unfortunately, my iPod died and I needed to get a new one. I can't live without an iPod! Melodramatic much? Yeah. But I did, very luckily, win a few books:

Hush, Hush and Crescendo (Books #1 and #2 in the Hush, Hush Series)
by Becca Fitzpatrick
Won from Garage Clothing Canada Blog (Thanks to them and Simon and Schuster Canada for setting up the contest!)

Yeah, I also thought it was weird that a clothing store's blog would be giving out books. And that's not all they give away. If you're Canadian, I would recommend following them because not a lot of people enter their giveaways!

Description of Hush, Hush (from Goodreads): For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her...until Patch comes along.
With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment, but after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is far more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.

Beautiful Darkness ARC (Caster Chronicles #2)
by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Won from Good Books and Good Wine (Thanks April!)

Desciption (from Goodreads): Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.Sometimes life-ending.
Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.

  4. I've just started Beautiful Creatures. The nice thing about coming to books in a series late is that there is no waiting for the next installment. So I can move right on to Beautiful Darkness. I didn't love Hush, Hush, but will still read the sequel;-)

  12. You have a great fortune in winning contests. What's your secret. Do you sign up for a lot of them. I've not been lucky on anything but sites like Goodsreads and LibraryThing.

So sorry about your ipod, I couldn't live without my iphone and ipad. I feel your pain, girl.

One last question: is Beautiful Creatures the first book in the Trilogy?

  13. Hmm, my secret. I really don't know! I'm SO surprised at how lucky I've been recently. Of course it's good to remember you'll have a better chance the less the amount of people that are entering. I can't imagine winning anything on Goodreads, for example! Tons of people sign up for those contests!
My iPod is my precious at least until I buy myself an eReader :)
Yes, BC is the first book but it's not a trilogy. There will be four books.

I don't really win much from other blogs. You're lucky... Enjoy your books! Ipods are expensive.... that sucks that you had to go out and buy a new one. ;(
