Muggle Monday (5)

It's time for Muggle Monday, in which I post a quote, a video, or a significant piece of news from the Harry Potter franchise. This is somewhat inspired by the Mundane Monday posts by The Mundie Moms.

But let's be real as to why I made up this meme: I just want the opportunity to post something about Harry Potter.

This week, Dumbledore's Speech from Cedric Diggory's funeral. I was really bummed they left this out of the movie. Dumbledore has some excellent quotes here:

“Every guest in this Hall,” said Dumbledore, and his eyes lingered upon the Durmstrang students, “will be welcomed back here at any time, should they wish to come. I say to you all, once again – in the light of Lord Voldemort’s return, we are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided. Lord Voldemort’s gift for spreading discord and enmity is very great. We can fight it only by showing an equally strong bond of friendship and trust. Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open.
“It is my belief – and never have I so hoped that I am mistaken – that we are all facing dark and difficult times. Some of you in this Hall have already suffered directly at the hands of Lord Voldemort. Many of your families have been torn asunder. A week ago, a student was taken from our midst.
“Remember Cedric. Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory.”

-Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

  1. I just started Sorcerer's Stone - Yay me! :)

  2. The 4th movie was when it really began to fall apart. Sigh. This really is an epic speech =) I love Dumbledore.

  3. Yes, I understand that as the books got longer, there was less they were able to put into the movies but this was such an important speech, imo. Oh well. Maybe when they remake the movies in 50 years...

  4. I need to re-read this series, there's so much good stuff in there. And I adore Dumbledore, he's always been my favorite character:)

  5. I'm with Jenny, I really must re-read this series. I thought that in the movie Cedric's death scene/ afterwards with his dad screaming, "My son!" and whatnot, it was pretty terrible, so it is a shame that they didn't stick more with the book.

  6. This scene always made me cry. Now I'm crying. Thanks! ;) But for real, Dumbledore makes some great speeches.

  7. That part totally killed me, Aylee. I love love love Dumbledore. I wish he was my grandpa!

  8. @Jenny and Avery: Yes, I would like to reread them, too. But I think I might be too busy this coming year, or at least the beginning of it.
    @BookGeek: lol, sorry :)
@Melissa: Yes, he would make a great grandpa!

  9. This scene is such a good one. Dumbledore was such a wise man. His speeches are great.

I LOVE this series. Gosh, I just still can't get over how much I enjoy reading these books. I really want to reread them, but I feel like I have too many other books on my plate right now.

  10. I loved that speech!
i really did touch my heart. <3
