This week, I've chosen to feature a few picks from the HarperCollins Fall 2015 Catalog:

Lee Westfall has a secret. She can sense the presence of gold in the world around her. Veins deep beneath the earth, pebbles in the river, nuggets dug up from the forest floor. The buzz of gold means warmth and life and home—until everything is ripped away by a man who wants to control her. Left with nothing, Lee disguises herself as a boy and takes to the trail across the country. Gold was discovered in California, and where else could such a magical girl find herself, find safety? Rae Carson, author of the acclaimed Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy, dazzles with this new fantasy that subverts both our own history and familiar fantasy tropes.
Walk on Earth a Stranger, the first book in this new trilogy, introduces—as only Rae Carson can—a strong heroine, a perilous road, a fantastical twist, and a slow-burning romance. Includes a map and author’s note on historical research.

Okay, so. I haven't actually read Rae Carson's Fire and Thorns Trilogy yet, please forgive me!! BUT it's because I'm currently working to finish off some other series first before I start in on a new one. From what I can tell though, I KNOW I'm going to love the Fire and Thorns Trilogy and I have a pretty good feeling about Walk on Earth a Stranger, too!

What if you aren’t the Chosen One?
The one who’s supposed to fight the zombies, or the soul-eating ghosts, or whatever the heck this new thing is, with the blue lights and the death?
What if you’re like Mikey? Who just wants to graduate and go to prom and maybe finally work up the courage to ask Henna out before someone goes and blows up the high school. Again.
Because sometimes there are problems bigger than this week’s end of the world, and sometimes you just have to find the extraordinary in your ordinary life.
Even if your best friend is worshiped by mountain lions.

Grace Mae knows madness.
She keeps it locked away, along with her voice, trapped deep inside a brilliant mind that cannot forget horrific family secrets. Those secrets, along with the bulge in her belly, land her in a Boston insane asylum.
When her voice returns in a burst of violence, Grace is banished to the dark cellars, where her mind is discovered by a visiting doctor who dabbles in the new study of criminal psychology. With her keen eyes and sharp memory, Grace will make the perfect assistant at crime scenes. Escaping from Boston to the safety of an ethical Ohio asylum, Grace finds friendship and hope, hints of a life she should have had. But gruesome nights bring Grace and the doctor into the circle of a killer who stalks young women. Grace, continuing to operate under the cloak of madness, must hunt a murderer while she confronts the demons in her own past.

SO obsessed with this cover! I mean, what the heck is going on there?! I'm intrigued to say the least. A Madness So Discreet seems like it would make a great Hallowe'en read!
How about you? Are you waiting on any of these HarperCollins Fall 2015 reads? Are there any upcoming books from the HarperCollins Fall 2015 Catalog that I didn't include here that you feel I should add to my list?
The Rest of Us Just Live Here sounds really interesting, and I love the funky cover. Your other two picks seem nice as well. I hope you love them when you read them, Aylee. Lovely list!

Have a great week.
Yes to all of these! I loved Rae Carson's Fire and Thorns series so very excited for her new book. Don't worry about not having read her work though because I have to confess...I've never read a Patrick Ness book. I know! It's terrible. But I do love the sound of The Rest of Us Just Live Here, so maybe I'll make that my first one! And A Madness so Discreet definitely sounds like it'd be perfect for Halloween - great picks! :)
ReplyDeleteOh no, Liz!! You must read Patrick Ness!! But I guess I won't hold it against you that you haven't yet :)
DeleteThese all look like fabulous picks. Rae Carson is amazing, heard really good things about A Madness So Discreet. Hope you love it.

ReplyDeleteMy WoW had a cover reveal yesterday so that was nice.
The Rest of Us Just Live Here looks SO fantastic! Can't wait for it.
ReplyDeleteI'm very curious about the first two books. I'm not so sure about the last one. I'm a little weary about the gorgeous book cover.
ReplyDeleteHeh, been burned by pretty covers in the past?
DeleteYES! These three books are also on my fall TBR. I think I'm most excited about Walk on Earth a Stranger because it's a Western with fantasy elements but A Madness So Discreet sounds really dark and I'm pretty excited about that.
ReplyDeleteCassi @ My Thoughts Literally
Yessss western with fantasy elements!! Sounds SO good!
DeleteI am really curious about The Rest of Us Just Live Here. Also, I've never read anything by Patrick Ness so that should change. haha

I am definitely excited for Walk on Earth a Stranger (I've only read the first Fire and Thorns book but, like you, know that I'm going to love that series and this new one). I *may* make The Rest of Us Just Live Here my first Ness book. Not sure if that's a good idea, though, let me know if I should start somewhere else! I do love that cover for A Madness So Discreet, but I may wait for reviews to see how scary it is haha.
ReplyDeleteOh, I don't know, I figure any of his would be a good place to start! I think he displays his writing skills quite nicely in all of his books :) And yes, I do hope A Madness So Discreet is ACTUALLY scary.
DeleteA Madness so Discreet was really good, both me and my co-blogger loved it. Walk on Earth sounds really interesting and that cover is just stunning! Great picks!

Don't feel bad, I haven't read Fire and Thorn either - even though I want to (do you own it, we could buddy read the first book too) - but I got a copy of Walk on Earth a Stranger at BEA so I'm hoping to dig in to SOMETHING Carson sometime soon :) I missed out on The Rest of Us Just Live Here at BEA due to scheduling conflicts but I got an eARC so I'll be reading my second Ness book soon (I hope!) Oh and this is the first time I've seen A Madness So Discreet but yeah, that cover is GORGEOUS. It sounds a little bit creepy...as in, maybe too creepy for moi but I'll reserve judgement until the reviews start coming in to see if scaredy-cat me can deal O.O Lovely picks^^
ReplyDeleteYes I own the entire series!! Just waiting for a good time to devour them all :) I would def be up to a buddy read! I think I'm with you on A Madness So Discreet - I'll wait to hear what people are saying about it and then dig in if it sounds good!

ReplyDeleteAh okay, interesting to read your thoughts. I'm excited to read Walk on Earth a Stranger, but I'll withhold judgement on A Madness So Discreet until I've gotten a better impression of what it'll be like based on reviews.
DeleteYES, YES, YES ON ALL THREE!!! :D I'm especially excited for Walk on Earth a Stranger...it sounds AMAZING! :D Patrick Ness is freaking fantastic, so I'm sure that The Rest of Us Just Live Here will be absolutely wonderful, too! :D And I'm totally smitten with the cover for A Madness So Discreet, too...so much pretty! :D

ReplyDeleteThat Patrick Ness one, Aylee. Oh my. I've never read Ness before, although I've tried a couple of times, but this one- it looks amazing (GLOW. IN. THE. DARK. COVER. WUT.) and sounds glorious and I'm pretty sure I'll end up preordering it just because I already feel intently passionate about it.
