This week, I've chosen to feature a few picks from the HarperCollins Winter 2015 Catalog:

The city of Bryre suffers under the magic of an evil wizard. Because of his curse, girls sicken and disappear without a trace, and Bryre’s inhabitants live in fear. No one is allowed outside after dark.
Yet night is the only time that Kymera can enter this dangerous city, for she must not be seen by humans. Her father says they would not understand her wings, the bolts in her neck, or her spiky tail—they would kill her. They would not understand that she was created for a purpose: to rescue the girls of Bryre.
Despite her caution, a boy named Ren sees Kym and begins to leave a perfect red rose for her every evening. As they become friends, Kym learns that Ren knows about the missing girls, the wizard, and the evil magic that haunts Bryre.
And what he knows will change Kym’s life.

I can never resist a Middle Grade book with a cute illustrated cover! Especially when it has dark undertones and reads a bit more mature than MG normally does. Monstrous is definitely MY kind of read!
One hundred years after falling asleep, Princess Aurora wakes up to the kiss of a handsome prince and a broken kingdom that has been dreaming of her return. All the books say that she should be living happily ever after. But as Aurora understands all too well, the truth is nothing like the fairy tale.
Her family is long dead. Her "true love" is a kind stranger. And her whole life has been planned out by political foes while she slept.
As Aurora struggles to make sense of her new world, she begins to fear that the curse has left its mark on her, a fiery and dangerous thing that might be as wicked as the witch who once ensnared her. With her wedding day drawing near, Aurora must make the ultimate decision on how to save her kingdom: marry the prince or run.

A Wicked Thing takes up after the classic story of Sleeping Beauty ends - and it ain't a happily ever after like we thought. I love this idea! I mean, because waking up to find that your family is long dead and your supposed "true love" is a stranger isn't exactly my idea of a happily ever after. Definitely intrigued!

New York Times bestselling author Lauren Oliver delivers a gripping story about two sisters inexorably altered by a terrible accident.
Dara and Nick used to be inseparable, but that was before the accident that left Dara's beautiful face scarred and the two sisters totally estranged. When Dara vanishes on her birthday, Nick thinks Dara is just playing around. But another girl, nine-year-old Madeline Snow, has vanished, too, and Nick becomes increasingly convinced that the two disappearances are linked. Now Nick has to find her sister, before it's too late.
In this edgy and compelling novel, Lauren Oliver creates a world of intrigue, loss, and suspicion as two sisters search to find themselves, and each other.

Wooo, new Lauren Oliver! Thank goodness that Lauren is such a prolific writer because that means we get new books from her, filled with her gorgeous prose, pretty regularly. Can't wait for Vanishing Girls!
Wilhelmina has a hundred identities.
She is a princess. When the Indigo Kingdom conquered her homeland, Wilhelmina and other orphaned children of nobility were taken to Skyvale, the Indigo Kingdom’s capital. Ten years later, they are the Ospreys, experts at stealth and theft. With them, Wilhelmina means to take back her throne.
She is a spy. Wil and her best friend, Melanie, infiltrate Skyvale Palace to study their foes. They assume the identities of nobles from a wraith-fallen kingdom, but enemies fill the palace, and Melanie’s behavior grows suspicious. With Osprey missions becoming increasingly dangerous and their leader more unstable, Wil can’t trust anyone.
She is a threat. Wraith is the toxic by-product of magic, and for a century using magic has been forbidden. Still the wraith pours across the continent, reshaping the land and animals into fresh horrors. Soon it will reach the Indigo Kingdom. Wilhelmina’s magic might be the key to stopping the wraith, but if the vigilante Black Knife discovers Wil’s magic, she will vanish like all the others.

High fantasy + magic + espionage?! Count me IN! I'm SUPER intrigued and excited after reading this cool premise for The Orphan Queen!
How about you? Are you waiting on any of these HarperCollins Winter 2015 reads? Are there any upcoming books from the HarperCollins Winter 2015 Catalog that I didn't include here that you feel I should add to my list?
Once again, I agree with all of these!! Especially Monstrous...I'm dying for that one!!
ReplyDeleteI snagged Monstrous & A wicked thing from Edelweiss. I couldn't resist both of them. Monstrous mentioned a combination of Frankenstein & the brothers Grimm, so I had to get it :D I also like a good MG every now and then. A wicked thing appealed to me right away, with that cover that screams fairy tales. I'm very curious about The orphan queen!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds interesting. Maybe when my tbr won't be so huge I'll check these out.
ReplyDeleteMy WOW: http://readingadd.blogspot.ro/2014/09/waiting-on-wednesday-talon-talon-1-by.html

Michelle @ Book Briefs
I basically lost all train of thought once I saw Vanishing Girls! I am SO excited for that book. Oliver's writing is always a pleasure to read :D
ReplyDeleteGreat WOW choices, Aylee!
Heehee, right??
DeleteA- I love the cover of Wicked Thing, B- I may finally get to read a YA by Lauren. I've read her Middle Grade (the one with the ghost- I can't think of what it's called right now- not for the life of me), and C- YAY JODI MEADOWS!!! Her Incarnate trilogy was so good and I love her writing.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty excited about the novels that are coming out, and I haven't been for a while.
Liesl and Po! Tis a good one. And that's really good to hear about Jodi Meadows!
DeleteFantastic selection once again Aylee ^^ I agree with you 100% on Monstrous - I was lucky enough to snag a copy on EW and I can't wait to dig in :D And Orphan Queen?! OMG YES' that book sounds EPIC, I need it in my life!! I actually only discovered A Wicked Thing a few weeks ago myself but you're right that it sounds brilliant and unique, hope it delivers! Oh and I SO need to read more Lauren Oliver, though I really should start with her books that I own and haven't got to yet >.<
ReplyDeleteCool! Can't wait to hear what you think of Monstrous :) And I absolutely concur that you should read more Lauren Oliver! Starting with the books you already own :)
DeleteI've got all of these on my wishlist too, Aylee, although I might give Orphan Queen a try only after reading reviews for it because I didn't really like Meadow's previous series. I'm especially excited for Monstrous.
ReplyDeleteAh, that's understandable. My expectations are perfectly open when it comes to Meadow having never rad anything by her.
DeleteHow cool is the Wicked Thing cover?
ReplyDeleteVery :D
DeleteGreat picks! All those books are on my TBR list. I'm particularly excited about A Wicked Thing. I love retellings and the idea of a "not so happily ever after" is such an intriguing concept!
ReplyDeleteCassi @ My Thoughts Literally
Yeah, really turns a classic tale on its head!
DeleteI'm really intrigued by A Wicked Thing especially how it picks up after where the fairy tale ends. It's hard to imagine how anyone can think there's a HEA when that story ended. Monstrous is definitely my type of read. I'm a bit hesitant with Meadow's new book only because I struck out with her other series so I'll probably will wait for reviews on that one. Great picks!
ReplyDeleteRight? That ain't no happy ending. It's too bad to hear about you not feeling Meadow's latest. I have yet to read anything by her so I'm not feeling put out in the same way.
DeleteLauren Oliver! Whoot! I knew she wrote Rooms (an adult novel) though I had no idea she had another YA novel in the works. This one sounds like a stand alone - even better. I'm so behind in all my series books. I so totally love Lauren's writing style. This one sounds killer! Thanks for the introduction.
ReplyDeleteSeems like she ALWAYS has another YA novel in the works! I can't believe how often she produces good stuff. And it's a bonus that many of them are standalones!
DeleteI'm really excited for both A Wicked Thing and The Orphan Queen. Both sound so delicious in their own way. I can't wait to get my hands on them! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMy WoW.
Ooh super excited for Monstrous and The Orphan Queen! A Wicked Thing looks cool too. Thanks for sharing these!
ReplyDeleteMonstrous sounds really good! I want to read more MG, and that is an adorable cover.
ReplyDeleteWonderful books! Especially Monstrous and The Orphan Queen!
ReplyDeleteHere's mine:
WOW: Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch
Monstrous sounds amazing, Aylee, and I'm so excited because I'd never heard of it before and I'm adding it to my tbr right away! It sounds like an incredible read, and love MG so much... I'm absolutely, totally excited for it now.
ReplyDeleteOh, Aylee! I did the Book Tag and wanted you to know that I tagged you- I don't mind if you don't do it, but I did want you to know how much I appreciate the kindness you've shown me, so thank you. xx
DeleteAwww, thanks Romi! :D:D I'll take a look in a bit. I'm not sure if I'll get to it because I'm quite busy, but know that I WANT to.
DeleteI really like the cover and sound of The Orphan Queen!
ReplyDeleteChanzie @ Mean Who You Are.
Monstrous looks and sounds amazing! Thanks for putting it on my radar. I'll have to get my hands on it.
