Stacking the Shelves (5): My Second Vlog

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews to showcase any books that I have received for review, bought, borrowed, or won to read.

After some indecisiveness about whether I would make another book haul vlog after my first attempt, I decided just to go for it! I feel like it went better than the first time. It's been a very long time since I've done a book haul post, so this actually encompasses the past 3 months!

The Reluctant Journal of Henry K. Larson by Susin Nielson (Thanks to Random House Canada!)
Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein (Thanks to Random House Canada!)
Blind Spot by Laura Ellen (Thanks to Thomas Allen & Son!)

The Mediator Series by Meg Cabot
The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling

  1. Good for you sticking to your ban for 3 months! And that's a TINY pile of books for 3 months ...

That's too bad you didn't like the Melissa Marr book! I bought that one at the signing, but haven't got around to reading it yet.

YAY for a gift card! What a nice employer you have. :) And holy moly -- you got a TON of books with $50!

Ha! "Bitch, please." YES, that is horrible condition.

    Enjoy all your reads, Aylee!

    1. Yup, I requested NOTHING in that time, so the result is only the stuff I received this past week. I'm quite proud!

I hope you like the Melissa Marr book more! We just don't click for whatever reason.

I bought the books mostly from book closeout sales through Amazon so I was able to save quite a few pennies.

      Heh, I was quite scandalized!!

      Thanks for watching, Kristilyn!

  3. Oh! I thought you meant you made a second vlog.
    Your boss is AWESOME!
I actually got The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner a long long time ago before anyone ever mentioned how great it was. I hardly remember the book though so I need to read it again.
The Reluctant Journal of Henry K. Larson looks really good! (you should read that next!)
    Have fun!

    1. This was the second vlog video I have made for the blog. Sorry if I confused you! My employers treat me pretty well, it's true! And you should reread it and the series if you can't remember it too well!

    1. Hi!! Thank you so much! I am now following you, too :) It must be hard trying to fit in a book as big as The Casual Vacancy into your reading schedule, so that's okay. I really hope you do end up loving it when you can find the time!

  7. I need to read Code Name Verity and Black City since I have both.

I've been doing well at restraining myself from buying/requesting books. I'm sure I'll crack soon though. lol

    1. Yeah, it can be tough. Just SO HARD to resist certain books that you feel like you need to read NOW.

  10. Haha, you are so funny! Bitch please!

I'm so on the fence about The Casual Vacancy. I think I'm just scared I'll be disappointed.

Black City is so gorgeous. I can't wait for your review on that one!

    1. Heh, I was just so scandalized! As for The Casual Vacancy, I would say skip it for now if you are unsure. Maybe reconsider again when the buzz has died down.

  11. I really want to read Code Name Verity. I think it sounds amazing. It's also something I really want to get my sister, since she loved historical novels.

    1. Yeah, I really haven't seen one bad review for it! It should hopefully be awesome (though I'm not a huge historical fiction fan).

  14. Yeah, I've heard nothing but really great things about Code Name Verity so I'm super stoked (I've started it already a bit). Black City will hopefully be good, too!

  15. YAY!!! I love your vlogs- if you felt awkward at all I didn't notice. My housemate has read The Queen's Thief series and really enjoyed them. She's always trying to get me to read them (which I have every intention of doing someday). I also haven't read anything by Meg Cabot, I hope when you get to her books you like them.

    Congrats on your second vlog!!!

    1. Aw, thanks Sara!! I am dying to read both of those series, especially now that I have them in my possession. The problem is of course, finding the time among all the books that I have to read first and that take priority!!

  16. I've never heard of that Reluctant one, it sounds like something I would enjoy. I'm always looking for titles that deal with real issues. OOH! I start Blind Spot tonight! I'm really excited for it. Black City is totally gorgeous I agree.Oh boo too bad you didn't enjoy Carnicl of Souls more, I bought that one recently as well as Graveminder so I hope I have better luck with her novels. Yay for the awesome employer!I've never heard of that first series and I need to read some Cabot too, I haven't yet. Ooooh no for the bent cover! That is so annoying. LOL VERY. GOOD. CONDITION. Bitch Please! I just died, I laughed out loud and my kids are now judging me. That was hilarious. I'm now going to rewind... Ok happy to report that it is just as epic the second time around. Ooooh how could you forget the J.K. book! I'm happy you loved it, I have definitely read a lot of not so favorable things about it.

I don't think you come across as horrible OR awkward at all! I really really enjoyed it! Now that I have written you a story I am off! Keep vlogging chick!

  17. Aylee, you are going to love The Queen's Thief series!

Also, you haven't read anything by Meg Cabot?! :O IMO, The Mediator series is one of her better ones in my opinion.

I'll be curious to see your thoughts on Black City. It sounds interesting and I love the cover :)

  18. HAHA, "bitch please" I hate books in bad condition. Chapters sent me a copy of The Rise of Nine with a BENT JACKET.

Your employer gave you a $50 GC? That's awesome!! :D Haha, great haul! :D

  19. Aylee, I think you do a great job with the vids!!
And I hope you like your review books, I have only read Code Name Verity but the others sound really good.
I think I remember Small talking about the Queen's Tief before, so I hope you like them =)

Too bad about Ninth Key, I think that book is actually "Good" condition, not very good. There used to be a guideline of what you cold expect from "Very good" "like new" and "good" condition but they took it off :( so now it's all up to luck. But I hope you like the series, :D

  20. Yay for Black City! Awesome haul! :D

  23. Eeep! I don't know whether I'm more excited to 1) see another vlog from you, 2) Code Name Verity!!! or 3) The Queen's Thief series!!! SO much awesome!

And, though I don't love it *as* much as those others, Meg Cabot's Mediator series is worthy of its own squee for sure (though, argh, I'm so with you. That book is NOT in "very good" condition! That lady's a liar).

  24. I've been meaning to read The Queen's Thief series! I hope it's good. ALSO YAY FOR CODE NAME VERITY! One of my fav books this year and really hope you like that! Speaking of hoping, I hope I like The Casual Vacancy! It makes me happy that you enjoyed it. :)

  25. Very curious about The Casual Vacancy. The reviews are all over the place. I'm also excited for Black City that one looks so cool! Great haul!!

  26. Aw, you're so cute! I would totally be pissed if a book I ordered arrived in that shape! This is why I've never ordered "used" from amazon or Indigo - I'm too worried about what that person's definition of "in good shape" is!

  27. Aylee, I am SO happy that you bought the Queen's Thief series! Yay!! I hope you love them and I can't wait to read your eventual reviews of them! :)

Also, I plan on reading Code Name Verity in the near future as well. It sounds like a fantastic book.

  28. Wow 3 months on a review request ban! Way to go :) I've been wanting to read Black City. I loves the cover too. You did get a ton of books with that gift card! From the links I thought you got like 3 books and then you show like WHOLE SERIES that you got. You need to teach me your amazon skills LOL.

Oh and don't get me started on used books online. I got a used book once that the back cover was falling off, it smelled like smoke and it was yellowing that they said was in "good" condition. And I only saved $3! Anyway. Great haul. I love watching your vlogs :)
