In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa's powers for his own dark ends.
With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister's war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move and that one of their own has betrayed them.
Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will; the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?
As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

I plan on posting my full review for Clockwork Prince closer to the release date but I thought I would post a teaser review consisting of my thoughts page by page. Sorry if this is considered cruel for those of you who have been dying to read this book...  my goal is just to make everyone excited to read it (as if you weren't already)!

Page 24: Excited for Tessa to get some Shadowhunter training! She is way too much of a lady.

Page 71: Oh, how I've missed Cassandra Clare's trademark humour.

Page 98: Victorian England is my favourite setting ever.

Page 143: Will's secret revealed! Holy crap.

Page 173: I love bookish heroines.

Page 195: Ha! Will totally deserved that. Good one Jem.

Page 206: Wow. Cassie sure knows how to write racy kissing scenes. That was hot. I am once again impressed by Jem.

Page 210: Oh, Henry. I like eggs too.

Page 218: Go Sophie! She is fast becoming my favourite character.

Page 250: I think I love Will and Jem's bromance even more than Tessa's relationships with Will and Jem.

Page 254: Again, Sophie?! She's fierce.

Page 278: Who knew Benedict Lightwood was so kinky.

Page 292: Love triangles are confusing and mess with my mind.

Page 318: Teehee. You so silly, Magnus.

Page 386: Cassie has a true talent at writing action scenes. So intense.

Page 423: Aw! So happy for them. Very sweet.

Page 428: !!!!

Page 439: Heehee. I quite like giddy Will.

Page 474: Again, this love triangle is messing with me.

Page 498: Grrr... what a way to end this!

Hope you enjoyed that tease. I strongly urge everyone to read this series if you haven't yet! Interested in getting a chance to read Clockwork Prince early? Enter my Clockwork Prince ARC Giveaway!

  1. Ahh, Aylee you tease! Now I'm even more excited to read Clockwork Prince! It seems you enjoyed it quite a bit! Looking forward to reading your full review in December! :)

  2. Why the "!!!!"?! You're cruel, Aylee! LOL

Great post! I enjoyed your teaser review. :)

  3. Fun post! I still need to read the first one so I only skimmed your post. I always love teasers though.

  4. Cruel! lol In the best way possible, those were some great teasers Aylee! Wow, I didn't realize that it wasn't released yet (no eye rolling I beg of you) but I just saw it so much around (lots of reviews) in the blogsphere that I assumed it was released :/ Ha! Well at least its not too far away now!

  5. Uhg, so mean! I'm dying for this book and your teaser just makes me more excited!

  6. I love this idea of a teaser review!
It sounds like you really liked it. I've never gotten into this series though my friends claim I should. :P

  7. Oh, this is so evil! hat's the "!!!" mean? And kissing scene with Jem and not Will? Or is Will the "!!!"? And bromance! And giddy Will! and Benedict Lightwood! Ahhh I need this book. I want to understand what all of this means...:P.

  8. I am so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so jealous of you. Waiting for this book is gonna kill me.

  9. *gasp heard round the world*

You are a truly evil thing!

I was really hoping a love triangle wouldn't show it's ugly face. :(

  10. Lauren: Yup, I loved all 500 pages of it!

    Jessica: Heehee.

Alison: Teasers can be good... as long as they don't reveal too much.

Lulu: Heh, no, not yet. A few bloggers received early copies but not many because of the popularity of the series. No eye rolling on my part, I swear!

    Juju: Aw, thanks!

owlandbell: Sorry for being mean but I'm happy I accomplished my goal of making you more excited!

Alex: Thanks! I'm not too sure if you'd like it based on what I know of the books you like... but couldn't hurt to give it a try!

Liz: Oh, no. There are plenty of kissing scenes involving both Jem and Will (but not at the same time lol). Anytime I mentioned that the love triangle was messing with me, it was because Tessa was kissing one or the other of them.

Amie: Only a month left! You can do it!

Missie: Me? Evil? No, of course not. And I could definitely do without the love triangle as well.

  11. Oh, you are so mean :D My favorite update is page 143 - Will's secret revelead. Holy crap! (HAHAHAHA). that made me laugh. In fact, you should do ALL your reviews like this. This was so fun to read!!

  12. Y U so cruel? ;)

Can't wait to read this! Thanks for the teasers!

  13. Oh wow. I kind of hate you right now. =3=

  14. Um. Page 206 here I come! I can't wait to read this, and I'm thoroughly looking forward to reading about a giddy Will. Thanks for the teasers Aylee!

  15. Awww tease!!! Cannot wait to find out Will's secret!! :D

  16. Jessica: Thanks, it was fun to write. Though a little annoying as I had to constantly have a notepad and pen beside me at all times.

    Avery: Sorry! :D

Chel: Eep. It won't be long now until everyone can read it!

Jenny: Heh, there were quite a few racy kissing scenes; not just that one. Giddy Will is awesome.

Cynthia: It's a good one! And it really does explain everything.

  17. What a fun way to write a teaser review! I'm super curious, especially about page 428. I still need to read the first book though :P

  18. Heh, 428 took me by surprise, for sure. I highly recommend the series!

  19. After finishing this book, this series, I am tempted to read again the Mortal Instruments series. It's arguably one of the best fantasy adventure young adult series out. I love how the characters developed and built the stories as much as the stories built the characters.
