Muggle Monday (6)

It's time for Muggle Monday, in which I post a quote, a video, or a significant piece of news from the Harry Potter franchise. This is somewhat inspired by the Mundane Monday posts by The Mundie Moms.

But let's be real as to why I made up this meme: I just want the opportunity to post something about Harry Potter.

This week, a newly uncovered early interview with J. K. Rowling. In the video (I would guess shot in 1997 or 1998), she chats in a coffee shop about her success of selling 30,000 copies of Philosopher's Stone in the UK (a mere 0.0075% of her books sold today), her fears when writing Chamber of Secrets, and the potential for a movie.

Of note:
-her red hair
-she's writing Prisoner of Azkaban in the video.
-she mentions that her parents settled in the Forest of Dean, which you may recognize as the place where the trio destroy the locket in Deathly Hallows.
-she is just so normal and unfamous. Weird.

  1. That's so cool! She's very down to earth(and has an excellent haircut). Hope I'm that humble when I've sold a million books. ;)

  3. Can you imagine being her? What a crazy amazing thing her life has turned into after writing one little book:) I love that she seems so normal despite the success she's already had. Thanks for sharing Aylee!

  5. She looks so different! I wonder what she thinks when she looks back at all of her fears and if she still has to pinch herself when she wakes up. Incredible.

  6. I wonder if there were people watching who thought "Harry Potter? Wizards? Ha, she'll never make it!" I saw an interview she had with Oprah and she really hasn't changed! Good for her.

  7. HAHAHA, I LOVE this meme. Maybe I'll join in one of these days.... I've stopped actively stalking all Potter stuff though... Hm, maybe this is a good idea to get back to it. ;)

  8. Cool interview! I just picked up the second book in the series. I have so many books to read, I hope I can get to it soon. :)

Oh, and the other day I stumbled upon a video on Youtube by CBS (sports news) that followed college Quidditch for Muggles teams. haha.

  9. @Amanda: LOL! It's hard to imagine what my reaction would be to selling a million books.
@Looksie Lovitz: It's very weird. That she could come so far from this interview.
@Jenny: I cannot imagine what her life is like now. I imagine she wouldn't be able to just sit nonchalantly in cafes anymore like she does in this video.
@Melissa: That would be very cool! And daunting.
@Logan: It's so strange seeing her talk about her being scared when she was writing the 2nd book. The 2nd book! How far she has come.
@Laura: Yes, she still seems very humble after all of these years. Truly admirable.
@Cialina: You are welcome to join in :) I can't imagine being away from all the Potter news going on. I live for it.
@Jessica: Me too. So many books to read, so little time. And yeah, I posted that Quidditch video in one of my earlier Muggle Mondays. Very fun/dorky :)

  13. Sigh...I just wish she'd write another book. Rowling and Meyer...two authors I want more from.

  14. @Sara: Thanks!
@Alison: Totally. I want what we were promised! Oops, that sounded demanding... but seriously, I would very much like to read Midnight Sun and the HP Encyclopedia sometime...

  15. Hi Aylee,

Well isn't that the most gorgeous gem of an interview. Well done putting it up here. Just such an uncomplicated way she looked at everything. She just wants to write books......well she certainly achieved that and a lot more:D

  18. Ah, I love Muggle Mondays. They really brighten my day :)

This interview was so much fun to watch. I wonder how she feels now looking back on that time. She sounds like such a lovely lady. I always have to remind myself that all of Dumbledore's wisdom is really her wisdom.

  19. Hi Aylee! I had to come and check out your blog just because I *love* the name! I'm a recovering Potter addict too! Will we ever get over Harry? NO!

Anyway - I LOVED this interview with Jo Rowling - that is priceless - talking to her BEFORE she knows what's going to happen with her books, yet WE know. Great! Would you mind if I post this video on my blog too? I would put a link to your site telling where I found it.

    Thanks!
