Muggle Monday: Harry Potter Fully Illustrated Edition Cover Reveal

It's time for Muggle Monday, in which I highlight a significant piece of news from the Harry Potter franchise. This is somewhat inspired by the Mundane Monday posts by The Mundie Moms.

But let's be real as to why I made up this feature: I just want the opportunity to post something about Harry Potter.

A few weeks ago, Bloomsbury and Scholastic revealed the cover of the upcoming fully illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, to be released October 6, 2015:

Bloomsbury (UK)
Scholastic (US)

Ah, so lovely! And I think people might be more fond of these more traditional images of Harry Potter compared to the quirky character profiles that were previously released. I can't decide if I like the title treatment of the US version better because it really pops off the cover or the more subtle title of the UK version more which allows you to see the funky steam engine of the Hogwarts Express. Both are pretty great! For some reason, the Scholastic edition is listed as $27.99 (USD) while the Bloomsbury edition is considerably more - £27.00 (GBP)! I have no idea why there would be such a discrepancy in price, but if I do end up saving my pennies to buy this edition, then it seems like the US Edition is the way to go.

In addition to the cover reveal and the previously released character portraits, another sneak peak into this illustrated edition by Jim Kay was released depicting some key wizarding localities:

I just love how delightfully whimsical Jim Kay's illustrations are! And I adore all the little details and quirks he's put into the world to really bring it to life. I've been pretty impressed with what I've seen so far regarding this new fully illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by the very talented Jim Kay. I'm thinking I will either need to save up to get a copy for myself or else ask Santa for it for Christmas. How about you - are you digging these new images and would you consider buying this edition when it comes out?

    1. I believe so. But they will definitely take a long time to come out with all of them - but I can't wait!

  2. Gah! ANOTHER edition of the Harry Potter books to covet, pine over and more or less just make me wish I was rich and could have them ALL. I definitely like these better than the new Bloomsbury Children covers - if only because I can't get over how much Harry looks like a girl on those and it throws me off >.< These new ones are among my favorites already I think though^^, along with the new Scholastic and the classic Scholastic covers ♥ The illustrations here are just soooo magical! And while I do like that you can see more details in the UK edition, I quite like the font in the US one - I've always been partial to that lightning bolt treatment on the 'P' :) The price discrepancy between both editions is a bit odd, hopefully it's some sort of mistake. Oh my, all these new editions are really exciting!! Thanks for sharing^^ xx

    1. Yup, yet another edition! I would like to own them all, for sure, but I will try to think sensibly and maybe only indulge in the ones that offer up new content and are especially pretty. And yeah - I'm not sure I dig the version of Harry that is on the Bloomsbury covers.

  4. It is lovely!
I think I like the UK version better because it sticks to the original title of the story, and I love how whimsical everything is, it's almost like all the buildings are confections and they are about to melt. I love it.

  6. This looks incredible. I think I will have to grab a copy of the UK version from Book Depository because I much prefer the UK editions. I like that it's not super expensive (although getting it from the UK might be). I'm so excited!

  7. I am SO getting this book. I like both versions, but it is cool that the UK shows more of the train. These illustrations are gorgeous. I can't wait for October!!!

  10. Ooh, ahh. I’m definitely more interested in seeing these editions after seeing these images, particularly that last one, which I assume is of Hogwarts. Suspended by trees? HOW BRILLIANT. That’s such a gorgeous image and I love the imagination that bought Hogwarts out like that. I don’t imagine I’ll be buying this new edition, unless I look through it and swoon, but I’ll be checking a copy out, that’s for sure! I couldn’t miss this!
Neither of the covers look like they’re totally finalised, to me… the US one looks like the font is too big and it’s hard to read the illustrator’s name, and the UK one… the font isn’t right, for me. Also, the train! That’s interesting.
Looking forward to seeing what we all think of this!

    1. Yeah, isn't that cool?! I love how Jim Kay has added so many little details that we don't see in the movies depiction of the world. It just separates the two and makes it all that much more special.
I do sort of agree with you about the covers though... maybe they'll look better once we get to see them in person!

  11. Wow! These are gorgeous! I agree, I love the details Jim Kay puts into his drawings. I was looking at the Florish and Blotts illustration for ages, I keep seeing something new, haha!
That is strange about the big price differences!
I love your Muggle Mondays! :)
