I NEED YOUR HELP! The above ten books are the books that I would hope to read this summer (sequels I've been putting off, books that are being made into movies, and books that I've been meaning to read for FOREVER), but I likely won't be able to get to all of them this summer. So I need to know what books I should prioritize! This idea is inspired by IceyBooks' feature, What's Next.
And so I've made a handy poll! Any reasonings for your choices can be left in the comments below. Thank you!!
Haha- I bet you can't guess which one I voted for... ;)
ReplyDeleteI'd put City of Lost Souls off until closer to the next book coming out. For Jellicoe Road and Raven Boys, make sure you read it at a time when you have patience. Especially for Jellicoe Road, because it won't make any sense for the first 2/3. I'd recommend reading it and then immediately re-reading it, because the beauty can be seen so much better the second time. Raven Boys also unfolds pretty slowly.
ReplyDeleteVampire Academy, Vampire Academy! Richelle Mead is my queen and the series only gets better with each book. How cool, though, I have The Lightning Thief on my list, too! I's nice to see that I'm not the only one who hasn't read Rick Riordan's books.
ReplyDeleteI voted for Jellicoe! But I agree w/ previous poster that give yourself some time, because it takes a while for you to put it all together. But that moment when you do.... SO GOOD!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh SO many of my favorites. You must read Ender's Game AND Ender's Shadow before the movie (they take place during the same time just different perspectives). And HIs Fair Assassins books are amazing and Vampire Academy!! Really I could do this to your whole list, Mara, raven boys, you see.
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten
Lots of great choices! The Raven Boys is AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteI voted for Dark Triumph and Vampire Academy. Both are amazing books! I just realized that I wasn't following you on bloglovin'. I fixed that nonsense just a minute ago, lol. ;)
ReplyDeleteGood list, I love the Percy Jackson series it's my favorite book series it has great characters, mythology, plots that are both contained to one book but each book also builds to a large plot of the whole series as well and the books have a great sense of humor as well. I'm reading Looking for Alaska right now and so far I love it.
ReplyDeleteOooh, I love what you did with this! Percy Jackson and Vampire Academy are some of my favorite series, and Alaska is another favorite <3 The Evolution of Mara Dyer is even creepier than the first and the cliffhanger is... maybe you should wait until Retribution is out haha.
ReplyDeleteGreat top ten! You should definitely read Vampire Academy first, the whole series is a-ma-zing:)

You know, if you read The Lightning Thief you'll be reading it at the same time, as me, because I've been lent it under strict orders to read it, and we can compare opinions ;)
ReplyDeleteBut also Ender's Game, reeeeeead it! The Lightning Thief and Enders Game, go!
*I voted but I picked three because of Looking for Alaska's reputation.
I included Vampire Academy on my list as well.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am dying to read the Percy Jackson series and Jellicoe Road - I own both, but I just have not got around to reading them yet.
And I also need to read Evolution of Mara Dyer asap since I enjoyed the Unbecoming of Mara Dyer.
Great list!
Jellicoe Road is a MUST READ! I just read it a few weeks ago and it was so so good! Don't be discouraged if you don't have a clue what is going on until you get to page 150, it will all make sense and be worth it.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT List
Dark Triumph was absolutely amazing. Better than Grave Mercy. You'll love it. But, I had to vote for Vampire Academy. It's one of my all-time favorites. Have fun with your list this summer!
ReplyDeleteTTT @ Krista’s Dust Jacket
So many awesome books! Vampire Academy and Percy Jackson are two of the best books I've EVER read. Make sure you finish the series :)
ReplyDeleteI have Dark Triumph on my list as well. I loved the first one so much, I can't wait to read the second!
My Top Ten
Percy Jackson made my list as well. I also need to read Ender's Game at some point, and Raven Boys is what I'm currently reading.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT.
I'm really digging what you did here and how you set it up! I voted for Percy Jackson, City of Lost Souls, Dark Triumph, Raven Boys & Vampire Academy. I really liked the Percy Jackson books, especially the further on I got and I'd be curious to see how you'd fare with them. City of Lost Souls I read back when it came out but I know you're a bigger fan of the series than me so again just wondering what you'd think of it :) The VA books would be on my list as well (if I had one that is!) and so would Raven Boys so for those ones I'm living vicariously through you I guess hehe I still need to read Grave Mercy but I'd love to see how you fare with the sequel :D
ReplyDeleteI also need to read City of Lost Souls and Ender's Game. But I think I'll hold off on Ender's Game until October, before the movie comes out.
ReplyDeleteAww, this is such a hard decision! I can't decide between Percy Jackson (which is probably one of my favorite series of ALL time), Dark Triumph (which is just as amazing as the first), and Rebel Heart. I still need to pick up Vampire Academy as well! Hopefully I'll get around to it soon.
ReplyDeleteGreat list, and I hope you manage to get to all of these this summer! <3
-Aneeqah @ My Not So Real Life
I love VA so much, so I vote for it. Dimitri and Rose have such chemistry
ReplyDeleteI personally vote for Dark Triumph. I think it's such an amazing series. I also love the Mara Dyer books.
ReplyDeleteThat being said - I've never read Jellicoe Road or Looking for Alaska but I've heard great things about both.
Honestly, I haven't read any of these EXCEPT for Looking for Alaska. I still voted for it though because it's one of my favorite novels and I just think it's great. I'm also a big contemporary fan. However, I think people that don't read a lot of contemporary would still like it too. The main character is obsessed with famous people's last words and I love that!

Oooo tough question Aylee! You've got some great ones up there:) I tend to put off sequels in favor of first books in a series just because I always struggle with the beginnings as I try to remember what happened in book one. Fail. For that reason only, I vote Vampire Academy or The Raven Boys:)
ReplyDeleteFor sure need to read these three: Looking for Alaska, City of Lost Souls, and the Evolution of Mara Dyer. I love your poll, what a great idea!
ReplyDeleteHere's my list: http://suchanovelidea.wordpress.com/2013/06/18/top-ten-tuesday-3/
Oh and your blog name/header - adorbs!
ReplyDeleteOoooooooooo Dark Triumph! Good call! I need more Beast. (yah never thought I'd say or type that)
ReplyDeleteI really need to reread Ender's Game before the movie comes out!
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely read JELLICOE ROAD (so, so, good!) or VAMPIRE ACADEMY (very fun - you'll love Dimitri) first. Or THE RAVEN BOYS. Although THE LIGHTNING THIEF is super fun too. Hmm, I can see why you're having a hard time deciding what to read - you've got a list full of awesome books!
You did not make that an easy poll - too many great choices! Let us know which one you end up reading. :)
ReplyDeleteI've read The Lightening Thief, VA, and City of Lost Souls from this list. The Lightening Thief I enjoyed a lot, but it's more of a preteen book in my opinion. I read it quite a few years ago and the MC is 12 y.o. or something like that. I'm rereading the VA series and I loved it just as much as I did the first time (which was 4 years ago) and since the movie comes out in February, you should try to get to that one this summer! I love the Mortal Instruments series, but the last two books fell flat for me. They were good, I still enjoyed them, but I wouldn't personally say they are one of those MUST MUST MUST read books.

Oh yeah I totally need to read City of Lost Souls too. But definitely read The Lightning Thief. It's really fast, but also really funny. YAY for Percy Jackson.
ReplyDeleteI can never resist a good poll! I really enjoyed The Raven Boys and Ender's Game (when I read it 15 year ago). I still need to read VA. Everybody raves about it. Great list!

Great list! I loved The Raven Boys, and I still need to read Grave Mercy...I have heard really good things about it, though. Ender's Game wasn't the book for me. I found it boring, and the author has been getting some negative press lately, so that's kind of killed any desire to read the rest of the series. Others seem to enjoy it, though.
ReplyDeleteGreat picks, Aylee! I also am looking to read Dark Triumph and Rebel Heart soon...hopefully :P And I loved Jellicoe Road, and I hope you do too! I hope you get to read all of these sometime soon!
ReplyDeleteIve been wanting to read Ender's Game this summer and got a copy, but then I read how he is extremely agains gay marriage and donate's to them. After reading some of his anti gay speechs I do not even want to read it anymore. :(
ReplyDeleteVoted for Jellicoe Road (SO much love for this book, a fave) and Vampire Academy (my favourite series) - I hope you get to read both because they are amazing! Happy Summer Reading :)
ReplyDeleteI voted for City Of Lost Souls because I love The Mortal Instruments series and this fifth one was way much better than the fourth.. so PLEASE read it!
ReplyDeleteI voted also for The Evolution of Mara Dyer, because it was AMAZING! You could never guess what is going to happen there; Vampire Academy was a quick read, not so impressive, but I am hoping it will get better in the next books, since everyone seems to love this series.
I also voted for Looking For Alaska by John Green - I am currently reading it- and so far it seems like a great read, thoughtful, emotional, a little bit lika the Perks of Being a Wallflower ^^
Happy reading!
I'm planning on starting Ender's Game soon, too, because the movie's going to be out and I wanted to read first before watching. Fingers crossed we both enjoy it! And The Raven Boys was really, really good. Not quite a summer read, but what does it matter? ;) I'm going to vote for Jellicoe Road and Looking for Alaska as well. Those two sound like nice summer contemporary reads. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a tough one, Aylee! I'd definitely say that you should read The Lightning Thief because it's a ton of fun, and it's super fast. But then again...I also think you should read The Evolution of Mara Dyer because, well, I'm obsessed ;)
ReplyDeleteAHHHH! I LOVE the Lightning Theif! It's really good because it is just really fun to read. Like I can't even really explain it. As for the Evolution of Mara Dyer, I can't wait to read that one. I loved the first one and I can't wait to read the next one. It's going to be great!(:
ReplyDeleteVoted! All of these books are great, but for different reasons. So hard to choose!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Lightning Thief. It's some really fun middle grade fiction. That and it's the only book on that list that I've read. :) I want to read all those books too!
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOD, YOU HAVE TO READ THE LIGHTENING THIEF. I don't really want to compare it to Harry Potter because the series are really, really different, but I feel like any fan of Harry Potter will LOVE the Percy Jackson series. The PJO series is funnier, lighter, but just as amazing as HP. Plus, Greek mythology!
ReplyDeleteEven though VA is winning right now, you should read The Lightening Thief anyway because it's so good! I promise! READ IT SOON, AYLEE, BEFORE I GO CRAZY! <3 :)
I read Blood Red Road and LOVED IT so I really have no clue why I haven't read Rebel Heart yet. Really loved The Lightning Thief!!! That whole series is amazing including the spin-off series. I vote for that one. :D
ReplyDeleteI voted. :) My top recommendation is Vampire Academy. Such a great series.Have a great Summer!
ReplyDeleteHere is my Tuesday Post.
Oh!! You HAVE TO TRY JELLICOE
ReplyDeleteApart of being awesome, it has Jonah Griggs and Chaz Sanangelo!!!!
You have to read The Raven Boys. YOU HAVE TO. That and Jellicoe Road! I just love those books SO MUCH. Vampire Academy is an old favourite of mine too, so I hope you can get around to starting that series. Either way, it looks like you have a really great summer reading list prepared! :)
ReplyDeleteJellicoe Road is a book I've been trying to read for centuries. Its supposed to be awesome, with some fantastic sort of reveal or twist. Anyways, I LOVE reading your reviews, they are so informative, if you really enjoy this one I may finally find the motivation to read it.
ReplyDeleteVAmpire Academy....there's no question. I have always been a fan of it, and will recommend it to just about anyone. I'm so freakin excited they're finally making a movie.
ReplyDeleteThe only book on your list that I have read is City of Lost Souls, and I practically devoured it in a day. It really is a good book.
ReplyDeleteMy mom has read the Vampire Academy series, and I know she loves those ones.
