This week, I've chosen to feature a few picks from the Simon & Schuster Spring 2013 Catalog:
Cory Graff is not alone in her head. Bound to a deal of desperation made when she was a child, Cory’s mind houses the Furies—the hawk and the serpent—lingering always, waiting for her to satisfy their bloodlust. After escaping the asylum where she was trapped for years, Cory knows how to keep the Furies quiet. By day, she lives a normal life, but by night, she tracks down targets the Furies send her way. And she brings down Justice upon them.
Cory’s perfected her system of survival, but when she meets a mysterious boy named Niko at her new school, she can’t figure out how she feels about him. For the first time, the Furies are quiet in her head around a guy. But does this mean that Cory’s finally found someone who she can trust, or are there greater factors at work? As Cory’s mind becomes a battlefield, with the Furies fighting for control, Cory will have to put everything on the line to hold on to what she’s worked so hard to build.

Girl who hears voices of the Furies in her mind and tracks down targets to satisfy their bloodlust? Now that sounds cool and original. I am so curious about Vengeance Bound!
Lucy’s Chantress magic will make her the most powerful—and most hunted—girl in England.
“Sing, and the darkness will find you.” This warning has haunted fifteen-year-old Lucy ever since she was eight and shipwrecked on a lonely island. Lucy’s guardian, Norrie, has lots of rules, but the most important is that Lucy must never sing. Not ever. Now it is 1667, Lucy is fifteen, and on All Hallows’ Eve, Lucy hears a tantalizing melody on the wind. She can’t help but sing—and she is swept into darkness.
When she awakes in England, Lucy hears powerful men discussing Chantresses—women who can sing magic into the world. They are hunting her, but she escapes and finds sanctuary with the Invisible College, an organization plotting to overthrow the nefarious Lord Protector. The only person powerful enough to bring about his downfall is a Chantress. And Lucy is the last one in England.
Lucy struggles to master the song-spells and harness her power, but the Lord Protector is moving quickly. And her feelings for Nat, an Invisible College apprentice and scientist who deeply distrusts her magic, only add to her confusion…
Time is running out, and the fate of England hangs in the balance in this entrancing novel that is atmospheric and lyrical, dangerous and romantic.

Oh yes, more historical fantasy books please! I feel like I do not read nearly enough of them. Chantress sounds so haunting and intriguing - I have high expectations for this one!
Zach, Poppy and Alice have been friends for ever. They love playing with their action figure toys, imagining a magical world of adventure and heroism. But disaster strikes when, without warning, Zach’s father throws out all his toys, declaring he’s too old for them. Zach is furious, confused and embarrassed, deciding that the only way to cope is to stop playing . . . and stop being friends with Poppy and Alice. But one night the girls pay Zach a visit, and tell him about a series of mysterious occurrences. Poppy swears that she is now being haunted by a china doll – who claims that it is made from the ground-up bones of a murdered girl. They must return the doll to where the girl lived, and bury it. Otherwise the three children will be cursed for eternity . . .
After reading and loving the Curse Workers trilogy by Holly Black, I have been anxiously awaiting a new book from her: enter Doll Bones, which sounds like a creeptastic and original Middle Grade novel.
Elissa used to have it all: looks, popularity, and a bright future. But for the last three years, she’s been struggling with terrifying visions, phantom pains, and mysterious bruises that appear out of nowhere.
Finally, she’s promised a cure: minor surgery to burn out the overactive area of her brain. But on the eve of the procedure, she discovers the shocking truth behind her hallucinations: she’s been seeing the world through another girl’s eyes.
Elissa follows her visions, and finds a battered, broken girl on the run. A girl—Lin—who looks exactly like Elissa, down to the matching bruises. The twin sister she never knew existed.
Now, Elissa and Lin are on the run from a government who will stop at nothing to reclaim Lin and protect the dangerous secrets she could expose—secrets that would shake the very foundation of their world.
Riveting, thought-provoking and utterly compelling, Linked will make you question what it really means to be human.

I don't know which is more trippy - that blurb or that cover. At any rate, Linked both looks and sounds awesome and enigmatic - I absolutely cannot wait to read it!
How about you? Are you waiting on any of these Simon & Schuster Spring 2013 reads? Are there any upcoming books from the Simon & Schuster Spring 2013 Catalog that I didn't include here that you feel I should add to my list?
I've never heard of Doll Bones sounds super creepy!! Great choices this week I can't wait to read Chantress as well.
ReplyDeleteMy WoW
I can't wait for all four of these either! Especially Linked and Chantress (although I've seen a few bleh reviews about it, I'm just ignoring them LOL).
ReplyDeleteReally excited about Linked, Chantress and Vengeance Bound. Thanks for stopping by! I really like the sound of all three books and I'm looking forward to it. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteCome check out my WOW post.
I haven't heard of Doll House before. Thanks for bringing it to attention.
ReplyDeleteMy WOW
I am also really excited about Linked, Chantress and Vengeance Bound! Not familiar with Doll Bones but after reading the synopsis I'm totally game for it! Happy reading :)

My WOW post
Such great picks. They are all on my wishlist and I can't wait to read them.
ReplyDeleteCool stuff. And the Linked cover is downright bad a$$.
ReplyDeleteGreat picks, Aylee! I think Doll Bones looks quite intriguing. I've heard it compared to Coraline, which I love, so I will most definitely be checking that out. AND I've heard good things about Holly Black, too!
ReplyDeleteI love that cover for Linked ... it's so gorgeous!
Thanks for sharing!
I'm absurdly excited for all of these Aylee! It seems like every publisher has an epic catalog this spring/summer, and I'm dying to read each and every book in them:) I'm particularly excited for Vengeance Bound and Chantress though!!!
ReplyDeleteReally great picks!! Just added Vengeance Bound to my list and Doll Bones sounds amazing!! =D
ReplyDeleteAnother awesome set of books! I've not read any of Holly Black's books, I've heard they are great, so a middle grade book might be a great place for me to start. Vengeance Bound sparks my interest also. I'm proud I've read enough about Greek Mythology that I know what furies are now! lol. I'm a little scared of the genre historical fiction, though I've been pushing myself towards trying to read outside of my comfort zone, a historical fantasy might be a good compromise.
ReplyDeleteOh I'm crazy excited for Doll Bones. Holly Black is an amazing author (her Curse Workers series is one of my all-time favorites). I'm dying to get my hands on this one, great pick!!
ReplyDeleteMy WoW Pick!
Oh I am SO excited for Chantress!! I haven't featured it as a WoW pick (yet) but I'm waiting for it right along with you :D It sounds fantastic & you're right: gimme more historical fantasy ♥! Vengeance Bound is another one I'm really looking forward to, it sounds kick ass! Doll Bones & Linked sound really good too, especially Doll Bones, not something I'd usually read but definitely willing to try it out - GREAT picks girl!
ReplyDeleteI read Doll Bones this past weekend and it was so good! I really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteLinked and Chantress both sound amazing! Can't wait to check them out!
All of these sound like books I would enjoy. I love anything to do with Furies so I am definitely checking out Vengeance Bound. You are right about Linked...very trippy-sounding. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat picks Aylee! I can't wait to read several of these too, especially Chantress and Doll Bones. I read an early copy of Vengeance Bound and enjoyed it well enough, though I did have some issues with it. And Linked sounds fantastic! The cover for that book is one of my new favourites. :)
ReplyDeletehahaha I loved that you included the whole S&S spring 2013 catalog!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for these books too! especially Chantress and Linked!

ReplyDeleteI haven't read anything by Holly Black as of yet, but I really want to check out Doll Bones. Sounds awesome. I'm kind of surprised it IS an MG. I need to read more MG, though, so it works. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm waiting on all these too! I featured Chantress on a previous WoW, I loved the Curse Workers trilogy and so am excited about Doll Bones, and the other two sound awesome.
ReplyDeleteI can't WAIT for Linked. It just looks/sounds so so good and I'm definitely excited! Also, I've been wanting to start Holly Black's books for a while, and I really like the sound of this one :)
