Stacking The Shelves (3)

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews to showcase any books that I have received for review, bought, borrowed, or won to read.

For Review
Ashen Winter (Ashfall #2) by Mike Mullin (Thanks to Tanglewood Press/NetGalley)
Love and Other Perishable Items by Laura Buzo (Thanks to Random House/NetGalley)
Splendors and Glooms by Laura Amy Schultz (Thanks to Candlewick Press/NetGalley)

I may need to impose a book request ban on myself because I've had very little restraint lately and it's becoming a bit overwhelming. So these are the last requests I'll be making for a while (hopefully)! I loved Ashfall and therefore needed to request its sequel, Ashen Winter. I've heard good things about Love and Other Perishable Things (previously released in Australia as Good Oil) and I've really been trying to read more contemporary, so I needed to request it as well. I don't actually know anything about Splendors and Glooms except that it's published by Candlewick Press, is written by a Newberry Medalist, and is a gothic fantasy, so I can't go wrong, right?

City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

Finally, I own Cassandra Clare's latest book, City of Lost Souls! I wasn't over the moon about City of Fallen Angels, to be honest, but I love these characters so much that I would read pretty much anything so long as I got to spend time with them.

The Eleventh Plague by Jeff Hirsh
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck

In case you haven't heard, SYNC will be giving away one free YA audiobook and one free Classic audiobook for every week this summer! I have picked up some really great free audiobooks from them for the past few summers that have led to hours and hours of listening pleasure. Head on over to SYNC's website to pick up this week's picks, The Eleventh Plague and The Grapes of Wrath, but only until Thursday when they'll giveaway another two audiobooks.

  1. I'm super excited for Ashen Winter!!! It's going to be AWESOME!!!! :D Great books this week!!

  2. I grabbed the audio freebies too! I've been so excited waiting for it.

oooo the Ashen cover looks soooo creepy.

  3. I have to agree with you on City of Fallen Angels. I really didn't enjoy that one and I'm still reading City of Lost Souls because of how much I'm not really feeling it. -.-

Check out my Stacking the Shelves!

  4. I love the cover on The City of Lost Souls. I need to go grab the third book and read it! I hope you enjoy everything and here's my IMM!

  5. Well, shoot! What goes around comes around. Now you have enticed me to want to request a couple more books on my ever growing NG list too! At least one of your books I requested and was denied. I read Ashfall and thought for sure I'd get approved for Ashen Winter, but nope - denied. I guess it was for the best! :-) But now you show me a book I've not heard of Spendors and Gloom. OMG that one sounds incredible! Love and Other Perishable Items was one of those books I WANTED by refrained from asking for. I think I can hold out on that one, but the other.....its so very tempting!!!

  6. I loved Mike Mullin's Ashfall too! Hope you enjoy Ashen Winter (:

  7. Great books this week! I though Ashfall was okay, so I'm not sure if I'll read Ashen Winter.
Happy reading! And I love the name of your blog btw! :D

  8. I still need to read Ashfall! I've heard great things! Enjoy!

  9. Splendors and Glooms sounds awesome. I hadn't heard of it before, so thanks for sharing. Most of my review books these days either randomly show up or I'm directly asked about it...but I try not to say yes to a ton these days, either, as I'm often behind as it is.

  10. :D I rather love freebies. I hope you enjoy yours!!
Also, YAY for Love and Other Perishable Items! I hope you like it.

Also, I'm totally with you about requesting, it's so hard not to go crazy! :P

  11. I haven't read any but I really love the covers, I hope you'll enjoy them all. Happy reading!

    here is mine

  13. Very nice books this week! I haven't read the Ashfall series but I'd love to get my hands on the first book! The covers for both of them are pretty awesome.

I recently got City of Lost Souls too. I haven't read the whole series yet but I'm enjoying it so far.

Enjoy all your great new books! :)

  17. I haven't heard of Splendors and Glooms but it INTRIGUES me! It looks fantastic. I haven't given audiobooks a try yet but since they're free, I might finally take the plunge. Thanks for sharing. Hope you enjoy your books x

  18. I felt the same way about City of Fallen Angels, but trust me - City of Lost Souls is so much better! You can check out my review if you're interested. Also, here's my Sts. :)

  20. Ahhhh I still need to buy City of Lost Souls!I can't believe I haven't done that yet! Can't wait to read Ashen Winter either, Ashfall was a huge surprise for me that I really, really enjoyed:)

  21. Dang! I almost forgot about the SYNC thing. Thanks for the reminder. I need to bookmark the page.

Good Oil was a very sweet, slightly weird, story. I enjoyed it. Love the new title and book cover. Looking forward to your thoughts on it.

  22. Nice stack of books! Mullin's book cover reminds me of Code Verity. Hope you enjoy your books!

  23. Oh Aylee, I was trying to be good and resist acquiring new books, but now you've gone and mentioned SYNC and, well, I've caved. Anna Dressed in Blood is now downloading. I have no will power :)

Glad you liked Ashfall! I have a copy of it and you know how picky I am about that genre. If you approve, then I feel a lot better going into it.
