Stacking The Shelves (2)

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews to showcase any books that I have received for review, bought, borrowed, or won to read.

For Review

Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan (Thanks to Random House/NetGalley)
Defiance by C.J. Redwine (Thanks to HarperCollins/Edelweiss)
The Other Normals by Ned Vizzini (Thanks to HarperCollins/Edelweiss)
Seriously, Just Go to Sleep by Adam Mansbach (Thanks to Akashic Books)

I've been gazing longingly after Unspoken, Defiance, and The Other Normals for a while so I was super excited when I got them for review! I read and reviewed the R-rated version of Seriously, Just Go to Sleep, Go the F--k to Sleep, almost a year ago and loved it so I'm curious to see how this G-rated version compares.

Bought Used

Incarceron by Catherine Fisher
Sapphique by Catherine Fisher
Going Bovine by Libba Bray
Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
This Dark Endeavor by Kenneth Oppel
The Giver by Lois Lowry

It just so happens that I live within walking distance of five different used/independent bookstores, so believe me when I say I have amazing restraint as it would be so easy to go on a crazy shopping spree while surrounded by all those cheap books. I did end up buying these six though, because I've been wanting to read/own them for a long time.

  13. I'm so jealous! Defiance is one of my most anticipated reads as well as Unspoken. Gosh, you are just one lucky girl. I wish I had a used bookstore somewhere near me. Although I can see where you'd need the self-restraint. ;D I just picked up Going Bovine from my local library a few days ago. I can't wait to read it.

I am seriously still jealous about the used bookstores. Cheap books! More reading. MORE BOOKS. MOAR BOOKS.

    1. You should request them from NetGalley/Edelweiss! You too can have those books for review :) The prevalence of used bookstores in my area is simultaneously a blessing and a curse.

  14. Excellent haul! I too loved GO THE FUCK TO SLEEP (especially the audiobook version! <3), so I'm curious to see how the g-rated version compares. And I think I want to go to your used bookstores - holy crap, that's an awesome haul! <3

    1. The audiobook version is the best! They couldn't have got a better narrator than Samuel L. Jackson. Too perfect. And yeah, I know I want to go to them right away...

    2. You are brutal! I don't think I'd be approved for the Harper Collins books, they tend to refuse me pretty easily. I may have a chance for the Random House Book. Maybe..... all I can say is maybe...... :-)

  18. I am dying to read Defiance. The cover is gorgeous and has that kick-butt heroine kinda vibe. And I'm super excited for Unspoken! Cannot wait to hear what you think of those two in particular.

I loved Going Bonvine!! I enjoyed the Gemma Doyle series (well the first two, I haven't had time to get through the beastly-long 3rd book yet) but I have to say I prefer Libba's standalones - both Going Bovine and Beauty Queens. She has such a fantastically crazy mind :D

I hope your enjoy your amazing new reads!

    1. I am also dying to get a start on Defiance and Unspoken. I look forward to many hours of great reading time ahead of me! Good to hear that about Going Bovine! It will be my first Libba Bray read - though probably not my last because I'm always hearing such great things about her!

  19. Oh Score! I'm really curious about Defiance and The Other Normals and I'm especially looking forward to what you think of them. You have high standards, so I love getting your opinion. I requested both a few days ago, but I haven't heard anything yet.

Those Incarceron books are so high on my TBR that I don't know how I haven't read them yet.

  21. Oh gosh, you have wonderful restraint. I would not be so good about that. I'm excited that you got Unspoken. I really want to read that one too! I didn't realize there was a G-rated version of the book coming out. That's really cool. I do enjoy the other version. ;-)
